My family and I have taken part in the Darkness into Light walk the last 2 years now in memory of my cousin Anthony. As the rates of suicide are ever increasing in Ireland I’m sure we have all no doubt been affected by suicide either directly or indirectly. It is not until it affects you or people around you that we begin to realise how vital the service actually is.
As odd as it sounds it is such a nice walk to take part in and I’m sure people who have taken part in recent years will say the same. Thousands of people come together in a unity of hope and support for one another. Show grief stricken families your support and register online today here. Registration costs €20 which will go a long way in saving peoples lives. You can also raise additional funds by requesting a sponsor card from Pieta House. This yearly event raises vital funds to be able to offer a free counselling service to people in need. A staggering 90% of their income comes from fundraising events so without this money they would not be able to offer this vital service to people who are experiencing suicidal ideation, people who have attempted suicide and people who are engaging in self-harm.
